Rules & Frequently Asked Questions
General Rules
- Don't be a jerk and don't overly nitpick at details, remember this is meant to be fun!
↳ If you have a moment, take some time and read this (don't worry, it's not required.) - At the start of the game, please only apply for one character. In the future this rule may change.
- As always keep out of character and in character completely separate, where they belong.
↳ This also means absolutely no godmodding or metagaming will be tolerated, if you see any please report it.
↳ Similarly, if you have any problems with a fellow player that you are unable to work through, report it. - If you have a plot idea that might impact the flow of the game, consult the idea with the mods first.
- If you need a hiatus just leave a message in the dropbox and put an ooc note in your journal to keep everyone updated!
↳ If you'll be longer than two weeks, contact a mod first. - Please note this game isn't taking place in current time, but we will be functioning on the same date/day of the week system.
↳ A day in real life is a day in game. - Activity will be determined by several factors, first and foremost with a biweekly check-in post. During the game we will be casually observing journal entries, logs and use of the owlery to be sure everyone is in fact active! If at the end of the bi-weekly term you are unable to provide any sign of activity the mods will private message you concerning your status in the game. This is to ensure we have a quick turnover rate and no squatters taking up space.
Journal Information
- When making journal entries, remember this is taking place in the late 1970's and in the Wizarding World. No computers or fancy technology here.
- That said, due to the current "state of affairs," beginning this school year students will be given paper journals to be used as an additional study aide and source of contact or self expression. The journal has been charmed to never run out of pages and the paper itself is capable of warding text to and from groups and individuals via cuts.
↳ Example: (Warded to All Gryffindors) or (Warded from Hogwarts Staff) Regular strikeoutscan be deciphered if someone takes the time, but it would require a lot of patience.Bolded strikeoutswill appear as blotches of ink and are completely unreadable.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is there any consideration into opening more spots in the gpsl?
↳ When a House is full, the remaining slots in the other Houses must be filled. Once this happens, all four houses will have an extra slot added. - At what age do first years enroll?
↳ Due to the response of those in the game when it began, Hogwarts students receive their letter at age 12. A list of all the ages can be found here.
↳ Mahoutokoro temporarily closed its doors in the 1970s. After this, students were sent letters to Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, or one of the other wizarding schools around the world.- Do we have to write the application in first person?
↳ As stated in the application, we request you write the answers to the questions as if it were your character answering them him/herself. First person would be preferred, but third person is acceptable, if necessary. This means your character would write this his or herself in third person. If this is the case for your character when you apply, please make sure to explicitly mention it somewhere in your application. - Is it possible to write a traditional profile instead of answering the questions provided in the application?
↳ Continuing from the previous question, not for the application itself. However, once accepted or even as an addition for your character's profile, you can provide more information for his or her development for within the game. - Is it possible to apply for student positions (i.e. Quidditch, prefects, etc)?
↳ Yes, of course! Please go here for a list of the available positions. If not provided in the application itself, you can leave a comment on this entry. Periodically these comments will be cleared to prevent the entry looking cluttered. - Are scenes/threads allowed to be written in the journals as well as the community?
↳ Yes, of course! Threading is encouraged in all forms. - Is it possible for someone who was not assigned the prefect position in his or her 5th year to become a Head Boy or Head Girl? What happens to the previously assigned prefects in their 7th year if this occurs?
↳ According to the Harry Potter Wiki, "At the beginning of the school year, the Headmaster appoints new prefects, as well as one Head Boy and one Head Girl from all of the seventh year students. These students are chosen because of their academic achievement, outstanding reputation as a student, and an honest, good, and hard-working personality. It should be noted that being a prefect is not a prerequisite to being appointed a Head Boy or Head Girl."
Using this as our guide for this game, in some circumstances there could be a Head Boy and Head Girl, both of whom were not previously prefects chosen within the game. Under the idea where the GPSL lasts long enough for this to occur, it is likely the pool of choosing the Head Boy and Head Girl will be from the 7th year prefects with the rare chance it being someone different. - Is the difference between "mixed blood" and "half blood" that mixed blood means the muse has a non-human magical ancestor?
↳ Yes! Mixed blood would mean the student/staff member has non-human heritage (ie. vampire, werewolf or veela ancestors). - What do I need to do if I have to drop?
↳ First of all, we will definitely miss having you in the game and we wish you the best of luck. All that is necessary is a note in the dropbox or a PM. Once that is complete, please go here and run the bottom code.
